Complimentary and alternative options can enhance the overall health of your dog.

Massage & Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a system of skeletal manipulation. It helps to restore normal joint function, range of motion and improves spinal nerve function. A chiropractor uses adjustments on specific joints to reduce pain by increasing joint range. There is immediate reduction in pain and increased range of motion. Each spinal nerve leads directly or indirectly to a specific organ. After chiropractic adjustment there is improved organ function.

There is a direct relationship betweeen joint angles and weight bearing. Hip and elbow dysplasia are at the head of the list as causes of abnormal gait issues in dogs.

By increasing treatment options and reducing the emphasis on drugs for treatment regimens, your animal can benefit from preventative and complimentary options to solve health problems. Chiropractors are trained in physiotherapy modalities — stretching, massage, and other forms of musculoskeletal nerve rehabilitation.

Indications of pain in your dog:
1. Your dog bends one leg when standing
2.When standing on all feet, one paw is smaller than the other
3. An unusual head position
4. One hip is higher than the other while standing
5. Feel down the spine gently and find "hot spots" when the animal flinches

Massage & Stretching
Massage promotes circulation and lymphatic drainage which decreases muscle spasms. It is a systematic manipulation of soft tissues. Trigger points or knots from tense muscle can be gently released by applied pressure. This technique of manual therapy is an art of pressure traction, rubbing and compressing soft tissue. Effective massage can speed up recovery. Therapeutic massage promotes relaxation, pain relief, and reduction of scarring and edema. Massage helps to restore range of motion.

Stretching is done with all chiropractic and massage appointments. Stretching restores normal muscle length which avoids stiffness and protects from strains. Chiropractic manipulation, stretching and massage are performed for the health and wellness of your dog. Ask your Park East Veterinarian if your animal can benefit from these services.
